What I've learnt after 6 months at Scrumptious

ree

I can’t believe it’s not butter and I CAN’T believe I’ve been at Scrumptious for 6 months.

(A fractional marketing company that specialises in B2B hospitality and employer branding if you don’t know, GET to know).

Going from working in the arts to the wonderful world of hospitality has been a DELIGHT. Something kind of wild about this sector is that competitors actually talk to each other, compare notes. I can’t count the number of events I’ve been to where suppliers/ operators etc share their struggles and recommendations with one another.

The arts could SO benefit from this, but the mindset of arts organisations is totally different, much more selfish and competitive in a way, more individualistic.

But a rising tide lifts all boats you know?

I’ve loved collaborating with the team, (#wrecklessly strategic - yikes) combining creativity and strategy in lots of different ways, for a whole range of clients. Working fast and accurately is something that’s definitely been its own kinda challenge. We’re big fans of a pub and or snack fuelled brainstorm at Scrumptious HQ.

Some highlights of the last 6 months include:

  1. Almost getting arrested for spray painting an OOH campaign on the streets of London for a client at a big event. (I swear this isn’t a goal of mine, but lots of our best ideas do seem to be toeing the line of legality).

  2. Helping launch a new SAAS platform in the hospitality sector for SetMenu and getting to tap into the other side of my performer life for the Love Actually inspired video.

  3. Traveling to make content for clients, from spas like Champneys to members clubs, like The Ned and Charlie’s at Browns – I really genuinely just love talking to people and hearing their stories.

  1. Team trip to France hosted by chef Samuel at his family’s French cookery school (BBQ’ed DUCK everyone!! A life changing and spiritual experience).

  2. The trickier bits! Coming from working in-house as a freelancer, your time is much more protected. At a fractional marketing company, all your clients feel they’re your number 1 priority! (And for any clients reading this you’re all my favourite!! But it’s up to me and my AI tool Motion to work out what is actually the most urgent tasks for the day). Everyone at Scrumptious has that in-house mentality too, that we want to do everything we possibly can for our clients, which is a good thing, but it can make prioritising tricky.

Also, being in a smaller team has made me much more aware of my more ✨neurospicy ✨ tendencies, that in bigger organisations you can kind of hide or people don’t notice so much. So for any #dyspraxics who are super sensitive to sound, and find open plan/ we-worky places kind of hard, just rock some sexy ear defenders, and you’re ready for the world of work or hitting up a construction site any time o’ the day.

6. All of the pastries. We all looooove food and at any point of the day we’re either planning what we’re going to eat or eating and will happily go into detail on all baked goods, on their relative: dryness/ chocolatey-ness and rank, comparing them to the other pastries we have enjoyed in our lives.

And we’ve only just got started! Lots more is cooking at Scrumpy HQ.

The team is small but mighty, and like a solid dysfunctional family we all bring our own flava to the mix and it just kinda works.

I’ve loved being part of a team where creativity is valued and am learning lots from Alice, Sam and Harry both in how they work and how they are. And the team is really kind, despite the daily teasing (which is my preferred way to show affection anyway).

I also don’t think I’ve ever had a boss that cares about the work as much as the people he works with, so that has been a very cool thing to see.

Here's to another 6 months !! And or the rest of our lives, whichever comes first xoxo
